Womens Group In Dairy Farming


Collective farming on wasteland ends their destitution


Nearly 200 landless women and widows in eight Villages Block level have been working under the umbrella of the S.P. kottai womens Agri Farm work to do farming and allied activities for the last years.

Interestingly, when vast tracts of lands are being sold off to realtors in the name of development, thus bringing down cultivable areas, the women’s collective has been instrumental identifying wastelands It has also identified lands that have been left fallow by owners in Madurai and trichy districts to help single widowe

Monthly Income In Agriculture


Assured, monthly income alone can retain youth in agriculture


In spite of all its importance, agriculture still lacks the glamour of a full-time job for young people to take the plunge. The main reason many traditional farmers and several youngsters attribute to this is that it is not remunerative or reliable.

If traditional farmers themselves say this then how does a youngster get attracted into this line which is mainly seen as an image of an old man looking at the sky for rains? It is only possible if we are able to assure a Monthly income of at least Rs.50000 from a hectare. Only if we can assure this income can there be any meaning for all these talks on attracting and encouraging youngsters to get into this line says Mr Rajkumar BSc (Agri) Project Director WOME
